Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Donetsk Airport

January 20 is the Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Donetsk Airport. The battle for it lasted eight months, from May 26, 2014, to January 23, 2015 – during the initial phase of Russia’s war against Ukraine that started in February 2014. The Donetsk airport was protected by Ukrainian heroes who became known as “Cyborgs.”

Its defence is filled with thousands of stories of courage. We honour the bravery of Cyborgs and all those who continue to defend Ukraine today.
